Some of you might be familiar with Yamaha’s ridiculously awesome abstract “new instrument for the 21st century,” the Tenori-On. The thing consists of a 16 by 16 grid of LED switches which are manipulated to shape a light (sound) wave passing over the face of the unit (i.e. rated “fabulous” by the USBFB).
Check out some videos of it in action. I swear it’s the best use of your next ten minutes.
Anyways, news coming out over the interwubs today for those of us who can’t afford the hefty price tag ($1,200). Dino Ignacio (ROFLCon ally and all around kickass professional artist, hero, and genius) is reporting on his blog “The Tenori-Off Project” that there’s actually a free software version called Weepr that just got released today. Sweet!
Gotta install Adobe Air (lame), and the site only works in Italian (?) but I think I’ll be playing with this all night.
